Cyrus 40 Series Products Landing in Australia

Cyrus just launched the new 40 series products featuring four components and with a view to expand the line-up with a matching stand-alone phono stage in early 2025.

Although being launched on the company’s 40th anniversary, Cyrus states the new 40 series is not a celebratory release, but a “new exciting beginning” for the British brand. The new 40 line includes the 40 AMP integrated amplifier, the 40 ST network streamer, and the 40 CD which is, of course, a CD player. As is the Cyrus’ strategy across many of the company’s products, all components can be upgraded with the new 40 PSU high-current dedicated power supply.

The 40 AMP is rated at 100 watts per channel into 6 ohms and features a built-in digital-to-analogue converter based around the highly-acclaimed ESS Technology’s ES9039Q2M DAC chip in a bespoke circuit design the company calls ‘HyperStream IV Dual DAC’ technology. Digital playback supports up to 32-bit/768 kHz PCM and DSD1024 via USB and 24-bit/96 kHz via S/PDIF.

Also onboard is a Moving Magnet (MM) phono stage featuring many of the engineering technologies from Cyrus’ renowned Classic PHONO. The 40 AMP offers four stereo analogue inputs (unbalanced RCA) and ‘Pre-Out’ and ‘Fixed-Out’ outputs. Digital inputs include options for two S/PDIF coaxial RCA, a Toslink optical, a USB-B, and an eARC HDMI. An RJ45 connects to the network while a USB-A supports storage devices. Speaker outputs are via in-chassis banana sockets. The 40 PSU upgrade option is catered to by a multi-pin port.

The 40 ST network streamer is based around the BluOS high-resolution streaming platform. While the unit is provided with its own infra-red remote control, comprehensive control can be accessed via the BluOS app (Android and iOS, also Kindle, Mac and PC). The 40 ST supports Airplay 2, Roon, and provides MQA decoding. The same ESS Technology ES9039Q2M DAC chip is employed within the 40 ST digital architecture which also accepts S/PDIF coaxial RCA and Toslink optical connectivity, making it a comprehensive digital hub. Resolutions mirror the 40 AMP’s own digital capabilities at 32-bit/768 kHz PCM and DSD1024 through the USB input and 24-bit/96 kHz via S/PDIF.

There’s still life in the good ole’ CD and the 40 CD player caters to the highly enjoyable format. A refined evolution of Cyrus’ own ‘servo evolution’ technology is employed in the 40 CD to draw the highest level of sound quality from the CD disc. The same ESS Technology ES9039Q2M DAC chip is incorporated into 40 CD. The 40 CD also features an improved dual power supply scheme (can also be upgraded, of course, via the 40 PSU) which separates the supply to sensitive digital and analogue signals while the other circuit sections are powered via an “over-specified” universal power unit.

An evolution from the famed PSX from the 1980s, the new 40 PSU features an on-board micro-processor allowing connection and communication with all the 40 series products. All output voltage is digitally controlled in order to maintain low noise and power stability. The 40 PSU and Cyrus’ PSU-XR are interchangeable across both the ranges.
