Part of the Living Range from Norwegian brand Electrocompaniet, the new Rena S-2 streamer and Rena SA-2 Wireless Streaming Amplifier offer comprehensive features and proprietary digital technologies.
The ‘EC Living’ line is Electrocompaniet's upmarket line featuring beautifully crafted, all-metal, designer-style electronics. The new, second generation S-2 Streamer/DAC and SA-2 Wireless Streaming Amplifier combine advanced bespoke technologies and, in a departure from the company’s more conventional, but beautifully styled ‘Classic Line’, offer a ‘lifestyle’ aesthetic.
Electrocompaniet has developed its own streaming software and has also employed “premium” quality digital-to-analogue converter technology. The DAC is quoted as being capable of handling resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz PCM and DSD128 (5.6 MHz). The SA-2 features a built-in 75 watts per channel, stereo Class-D amplifier. The S-2 and SA-2 units offer a comprehensive and customisable 32-bit ‘Floating Point’ Digital Signal Processing engine which also includes a number of presets for different loudspeaker and subwoofer sizes. All can be controlled via Electrocompaniet’s free Rena S2 Controller EC Play app for iOS and Android. The units also include the full-function EC Living Remote Control which operates via Bluetooth.
Both the Rena S-2 and SA-2 offer a number of input/output options. There’s a single USB-A socket for external storage, an S/PDIF coaxial RCA input, two Toslink optical inputs (one can also operate as an output), a DC input and an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port (1000Mbps). The SA-2 features a single Line Out/Optical Out via mini-jack, while also sporting a multi-pin speaker and WiSA 24-bit/96 kHz wireless speaker connection.
Streaming capabilities are exceptionally comprehensive. The DNLA capable S-2 and SA-2 are Roon Ready and can stream Tidal (Tidal Connect capable), Spotify (Spotify Connect capable), Qobuz, while also providing access to the infinite Internet Radio universe. AirPlay 2, Bluetooth streaming from any Bluetooth-enabled device and Audirvāna are also offered on-board.
File format compatibility extends to just about every format extant. S-2 and SA-2 cater to WAV/WAVE, AAC+, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, and more.
