With the Nu-Vista 600.2, Musical Fidelity continues the strategy of producing high power amplification bearing large power supplies and battleship chassis construction.
The Nu-Vista 600.2 integrated amplifier introduces a subtly polished aesthetic highlighted by a refined fascia featuring an all-new display. The 600.2 also shares many of the company’s award winning Nu-Vista 800.2 ‘Titan’ circuit design, including the highly-engineered buffer stage trickled down from the flagship PRE, PAS and PAM discrete components.
The Nu-Vista 600.2 is rated at 160 watts and 300 watts into 8 ohms and 4 ohms respectively (500 watts peak into 2 ohms). The high-current design is said to provide 50 Amps peak to peak. The 600.2 features Musical Fidelity’s preferred 6S51N nuvistor valve in a discrete Class-A amplifier buffer stage with dual mono power supply design across input circuits. Other circuit improvements include a revision of the power supply arrangement to limiting the built-in Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) to only cater to the standby mode. The main power supply is a reengineered linear design. The amplifier’s output has also been reworked and features ‘V4’ transistor output devices (four per channel) which are now decoupled. The output stage is complimented via a large “high-current bulk supply capacitor” bank said to improve transient response and better ripple filtering at high currents.
The PCB layout has been optimised, with the bulk capacitors and rectifiers now mounted onto a dedicated board in order to reduce noise. The Nu-Vista 600.2 incorporates a new laser-trimmed volume control with a +/- 0.5dB of gain error even at lower settings. Input selection is now controlled via relays which are said to provide superior channel separation and dynamics.
The Nu-Vista 600.2 features two balanced XLR inputs, a single balanced XLR output, four unbalanced RCA line inputs, and unbalanced RCA Line Out (fixed level) and Pre-Out (variable level for bi-amping) outputs. There are two sets of loudspeaker binding posts per channel.
The Nu-Vista 600.2 features a massively solid chassis assembled from milled extruded aluminium across its front and side panels. The aluminium architecture has been optimised as a Faraday cage in order to reduce EMF. The fascia houses a large, dimmable colour display with optional VU meters. Musical Fidelity includes a high quality “front panel in your hand” remote controller. Finish options are natural silver and anodised black.
The new Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 600.2 integrated amplifier is slated to arrive in Australia in early Q2. Musical Fidelity products are distributed via Audio Marketing and can be auditioned around the country via appointed specialist audio dealers.
