The just-launched Diva Utopia are French specialist Focal’s affirmation of a bold new direction, with the active, connected and wireless loudspeakers representing an important milestone in the company’s history.
Slated for exclusive availability via the Focal Powered by Naim network of stores around the world, the Diva Utopia expands the Utopia concept by offering newly developed technologies and further advancing Focal’s 45 years of renowned engineering.
The Diva Utopia is a 3-way, bass-reflex floorstanding active loudspeaker featuring Focal’s latest ‘M’ Profile beryllium tweeter, a ‘W’ cone mid-woofer and four powerful bass drivers arrayed in a push-pull configuration. The woofers are mounted on the Diva Utopia’s side panels, keeping the baffle width to an elegant slim design. The drivers are powered via a full suite of Naim amplification employing three Class-A/B amps, one each for highs, mids and lows for a per-speaker total of 400 watts.
The back panel offers inputs for S/PDIF digital via optical Toslink, HDMI eARC and analogue stereo RCA. An RJ45 socket is provided for connectivity to the second Diva Utopia (RJ45 terminated cable included) and a second RJ45 socket connects to the network. Also available are a USB-A port, plus pairing and ground lift switches. Of course, being active, there’s an IEC socket for AC power.
The Diva Utopia has been incorporated into the ‘Focal & Naim’ ecosystem which now includes the new Naim Pulse Platform active module, allowing streaming from Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, and QQ Music. The Diva Utopia also provides access to multi-room setups via other Focal/Naim products. There’s onboard support for Airplay 2, Google Cast while also having UPnP and Bluetooth capabilities. The speakers also feature UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) technology allowing high-definition transmission at 24-bit/96 kHz resolution. Focal provides a bespoke app for full user control over the Diva Utopia’s multitude of functions.
The Diva Utopia’s beautiful aesthetics are reflected in the design of its cabinet which will be available in a number of lavish finishes. Not just a pretty face, the enclosure is constructed from a stiff high-density polymer material which has been designed to provide excellent stiffness in order to control panel vibrational distortions. Focal points to the double tweeter grille and “Ying & Yang” symbolism as unique design features of the Diva Utopia’s elegant form. The main cabinet sits upon a rounded heavy duty plinth/platform which provides stability and an enhanced visual appeal.
Focal’s new Diva Utopia active loudspeakers are available in Australia via local distributor Westan. The company has plans for an expansion of Focal Powered by Naim store locations around the country.
