Marantz Introduces New “Reference Level” 10 Series Collection

The new flagship 10 Series Collection from Marantz will include a trio of refined products covering two source components and the most powerful integrated amplifier the company has ever made.

The new 10 Series Collection will feature two source components in the LINK 10n Reference Network Audio Player and the SACD 10 Reference SACD player, which will be supported via the powerful MODEL 10 Reference Integrated Amplifier (to land first). The new Reference products are said to be a concerted five-year effort by the engineering team at Marantz’s Shirakawa Audio Works in Japan, with the aim to designing components of elevated quality. The company states it took inspiration from key products from Marantz’s rich history.

The MODEL 10 Reference Integrated Amplifier is the first to be released and is the powerhouse behind the new products. It’s a dual-mono, fully balanced (from input to output) behemoth rated at 250 watts into 8 ohms and 500 watts with a 4 ohms load. The integrated’s amplification stages have been designed in partnership with renowned specialist Purifi. The MODEL 10 integrated amplifier is a high current design with a stated potential output of 30 amps of peak current and is said to have a “frequency response that is immune to load impedance”. The proprietary FCBS (Floating Control Bus System) can be used to link and control two amplifiers seamlessly, while the system allows up to four MODEL 10s to be daisy-chained if for multi-amplification and/or high power active system configuration.

The MODEL 10 features a brand new preamplifier stage employing a newly designed HDAM analogue circuit topology (first introduced in 1992 in the highly acclaimed PM-99SE amplifier), while the line level circuitry is powered via its own linear power supply.

The MODEL 10 hosts a wide array of connectivity options. It includes two balanced XLR, three single-ended RCA inputs, ‘Recorder’ inputs and outputs, and a built-in Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) phono stage. Preamplifier outputs are via both XLR and RCA, while the MODEL 10 can also be configured as a power amplifier when connected to the LINK 10n Network Audio Player stablemate which can control the volume levels.

The MODEL 10 features high quality chassis construction (near-16 mm thick solid aluminium side panels), while a metal mesh grille ‘window’ allows a view into the exceptional electronic design which is illuminated from within. All models sport a high quality display while, in the case of the MODEL 10 amplifier, it serves as a multi-information status display, including VU meters. The MODEL 10’s control knobs are CNC machined, spun-finished aluminium and incorporate a bearing system for super-smooth operation. Like the other Reference 10 Series products, the MODEL 10 includes a high quality “teal-coloured” aluminium-top remote control.
