Linn has spared no expense in the production of the new and highly advanced Klimax Solo 800 monobloc flagship amplifier.
The Klimax Solo 800 takes a departure from Linn’s design language as has been applied to its top-tier products over some years now and right up to the current line. It stands alone as a new vanguard for the company’s spare-no-expense amplification and, in terms of amplifiers, represents the very best design from the company’s engineering team. As the company states, it’s “unlike anything we've created before”.
The Klimax Solo 800 monobloc has been designed to drive “any given speaker optimally – under any conditions” which points to its high-power and high current capabilities while producing ultra-low harmonic distortion. Those amplification properties are partly a result of its 16 output transistors which are monitored, sampled and automatically biased, dynamically and in real time, via Linn’s proprietary ‘Adaptive Bias Control’. High power thermal control is managed via the mounting of the critical power supply componentry directly onto a large precision machined heatsink system.
Linn engineers have implemented the company’s own super-efficient “soft switching” Utopik switch-mode power supply technology which provides optimally stable power to the amplification stages. Utopik is capable of steadily producing 2 kilowatts of power while the soft-switching circuitry aims to minimise noise and distortion artefacts which can plague switch-mode architectures. This is achieved by, as Linn describes, “a resonant tank circuit ensures that voltage across the switch falls to zero before the switch is thrown”.
The Klimax Solo 800 amplifier caters to both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectivity (switchable) and features trigger in/out for control of compatible Linn products. The amplifier is specified as outputting 400 watts into 8 ohms, 800 watts into 4 ohms, as the name implies, and 1200 watts into 2 ohms. Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (THD+N) is stated as 0.0005% at 4 ohms while the Signa-to-Noise Ration (SNR) is quoted as 98dB (Reference 1 watt at 20 kHz A-weighted).
The front panel sports a circular dial controller, or “jewel-like roundel”, as the company describes it, which mirrors the elegance of the wheel on the Klimax DSM and Selekt DSM products. The brilliance of the 100 “cool-toned” LED markers can be dimmed in three stages via a rear panel switch.
The Linn Klimax Solo 800 monobloc power amplifier will be available in Australia, towards the latter stages of Q1 2024, via importer Advance Audio’s country-wide specialist dealer network.
