Bowers & Wilkins Announces New Formation Wireless Products

Bowers & Wilkins expands its product range with the new Formation line which expands the company’s wireless ‘life style’ products and culminates in the Formation Duo high quality active monitor.

The new range will include the Formation Bar, which is of course a high quality and beautifully styled soundbar, the Formation Bass, a cylindrically-shaped subwoofer with proprietary digital processing and driver technology and a ‘life style’ single speaker with up-to-the-minute technology. Supporting electronics is via the Formation Audio, a wireless streamer which can accept analogue sources and can wirelessly stream high-resolution audio around the home with Formation Wireless Technology (also supports Apple AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless streaming).

The Formation series is crowned by the Duo active wireless speakers which aesthetically mimic the gorgeously-styled 805 D3 speakers. The Formation Wireless Technology allows an industry-leading 1 microsecond of synchronisation latency between Duo speakers. The Duo speakers can, of course, be used in multiples around the home. Bowers & Wilkins has developed a ‘Mesh’ independent network system which can run independently of the home’s own Wi-Fi network. High resolution streaming can be performed at up to 96 kHz/24-bit resolutions on a wireless basis. Bowers & Wilkins has developed a free dedicated app which allows intuitive and quick system setup. The system is compatible with Roon’s superb platform and Spotify Connect.

While featuring extensive streaming and wireless technologies (including AirPlay 2, Bluetooth V4.1, AptX HD, etc.) packed into its beautiful form factor, Bowers & Wilkins has not skimped on driver technologies. The Formation Duo features a high quality 25mm Carbon dome tweeter derived from the highly acclaimed 700 series while the 165mm mid-woofer is based on the Continuum driver which was introduced with the flagship 800 series of speakers. The Formation Duo is perfectly matched to work with the Formation Bass wireless subwoofer.

The Formation Duo has an in-built two channel 125 watts digital amplifier and DSP signal processing. Bowers & Wilkins has specified the frequency response as spanning from 25 Hz to 33 kHz (no parameters quoted) which is remarkable for a speaker of this size.

The Formation series of wireless speaker systems is for imminent release in Australia.
