Under the Steinway & Sons sub-branding, Steinway Lyngdorf has unveiled the new Model C, a direct descendant of the Model D, the company’s first landmark loudspeaker design.

The new Model C may be an evolution of the original and quite sizable Model D, however, the new speaker has been considerably downsized in terms of its dimensions without, according to the company, sacrificing its performance capabilities. This has been made possible by separating the woofers from the main loudspeakers in a development of Steinway Lyngdorf’s boundary woofer technology.

The Model C is an open baffle dipole design combining the famed ‘Air Motion Transformer’ (AMT) tweeter featuring a Kapton foil design and powerful neodymium magnet system. The AMT tweeter sits in a D’Appolito arrangement between twin 130 mm (5.25 inches) “precision-cast” magnesium cone midrange drivers featuring ‘Hexadym’ neodymium magnet motors. The drivers are housed in the dipole frame which is a mix of aluminium, MDF and steel (for the base) materials. The boundary woofer systems can be interchangeable through Steinway Lyngdorf’s multitude of offerings which range from LSR-210 to S-210, LSR-212 and more.

The Model C is mated to its own electronics suite, befitting Steinway Lyngdorf’s ‘Integrated System Approach’. Each driver is ideally mated to its own dedicated amplifier with powerful built-in digital processing which controls the crossover, distance alignment, and sound tuning settings. Steinway Lyngdorf’s superb RoomPerfect acoustic calibration technology is also employed in order to optimise the Model C to any listening environment.

Steinway Lyngdorf has specified the Model C’s frequency response from 250 Hz to 22 kHz (+/- 3dB) with the maximum SPL capability stated as 117dB. The electronics are a choice of A1 or A2 amplifiers with 400 watts output capabilities, with the same output rating for the boundary woofers.

The Model C is fully assembled and finished in Skive, Denmark. Aesthetically, the Steinway Lyngdorf designers imbued the Model C with stylistic aspects which resemble elements of piano construction. There’s the openness of the speakers which ties in with a piano’s soundboard and lid, while the bronze-gold lacquered driver baffle frame mirrors a piano’s plate. In fact, the black and bronze-gold lacquer is applied to the same exacting standards as Steinway & Sons’ quality pianos. The frame is also available in a chrome finish. Model C is available in custom finishes upon request.
