G’day! Welcome to SoundStage! Australia! As editor-in-chief, I’m extremely proud to be a part of the world’s leading online audio publication network and thrilled by the opportunity to bring to you the cornucopia of wonderful products, people and events from this great southern land and the world. The SoundStage! Australia bureau operates from the World Heritage Blue Mountains, home to the Aboriginal Darug and Gundungurra people for 40,000 years and where, in 1836, after his famed journey to the Galapagos Islands, a mesmerized Charles Darwin walked.

We may be what would seem an interminable distance away, girt by sea, but we are uniquely a dynamic, buoyant and exciting nook of this planet… as distinctively creative as is evidenced in our audio.

SoundStage! Australia (SSA) will feature insightful reviews across the gamut of high-end products, from source to speakers. Our experienced writers will deliver informed and engaging critiques of the very best audio has to offer from around the planet. Vivid pictorial factory tours, incisive interviews and penetrating comment will also be your regular fare. And while reflecting a strong vision from the kaleidoscope of global products, SSA will also be peppered with the delicious tang offered by Australia’s wide smorgasbord of distinctive high-end audio.

And what better way to kick off than to launch with a mix of Australian and international high profile articles such as this inaugural issue’s reviews on Axis Loudspeakers’ new Extended Bass System for the outstanding VoiceBox S monitor, the flagship pre/mono power combo from Redgum Audio, and from American speaker-manufacturing powerhouse Magico, the S3 Mk.II.

In the ‘Features’ section, we report on a remarkable initiative by Devialet to remaster and bring to the world previously unreleased recordings of some of the greatest artists from yesteryear. Melbourne was the host city for Devialet’s (in conjunction with Australian and New Zealand distributor Interdyn) showcasing a pristine lacquer of Sarah Vaughan’s 1975 Lauren Jazz Festival live performance. It was indeed a treat!

Please bookmark us. Mark us on your libretto. We’d so love your company.

Cheers!
